What We Do

Strengthening Our Churches

In Acts 15:41 it says that the Apostle “went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches.” Paul’s missionary strategy included he and his mission team revisiting churches that he had previously planted to strengthen them. The root meaning of “strengthen” comes from episterizo (epí = intensifies + sterízo = strengthen, support) and means literally to place firmly upon and the root verb (histemi) means to stand. Paul was helping these churches to build a firm foundation that they could stand on for ministry and missions effectiveness and theological integrity.

We believe that every church needs to be a strong church and to maintain that foundational integrity requires assistance and partnership with others for encouragement. One of purposes of the Waccamaw Baptist Association is to come alongside our pastors and churches with resources to help strengthen our churches.

Encouraging Our Leaders

At the Waccamaw Baptist Association, we are committed to walking alongside our pastors with genuine care, practical support, and ongoing encouragement. Ministry can be both deeply rewarding and uniquely challenging, and we want every pastor in our association to know they are not serving alone. Through regular check-ins, prayer support, fellowship opportunities, and resources tailored to the needs of local church leaders, we strive to cultivate a community where pastors feel valued, strengthened, and equipped for the work God has called them to do.

We also believe that encouragement is most powerful when it is intentional and consistent. The WBA provides pastors with access to leadership development, peer mentoring, spiritual retreats, and opportunities to connect with fellow ministers who understand the demands of pastoral life. Whether through a timely word of support, training that fuels growth, or a gathering that restores joy and energy, our desire is to foster an environment where pastors can thrive personally, spiritually, and vocationally as they lead their congregations in faithful mission.

Mobilizing for Missions

The Waccamaw Baptist Association is committed to mobilizing churches to serve on mission in their communities, across the nation, and around the world. We believe that every church has a vital role in sharing the love of Christ through acts of service, evangelism, and discipleship. By equipping congregations with resources, training, and opportunities, we aim to empower them to make a meaningful impact—whether by meeting the needs of their local neighbors, engaging in domestic mission projects, or participating in global outreach initiatives. Together, we can extend the Kingdom of God and transform lives through faithful obedience to the Great Commission.

In 2025 we will be offering short-term mission opportunities to Canada, Thailand, Tokyo, and New York City. In addition, we could assist in vision trips to New York City, West Virginia, Baltimore, and Send Relief Centers. Below you’ll see some information on short-term mission trips we are leading and local mission partners.
